Welcome

Enfield Conservation Volunteers is open to anyone aged 16 or over in good health.

Please bring:

All volunteer projects will commence at the meeting place at 10.00am, and finish by 4.00pm.

We provide:

No skills or experience are required as training will be provided for all aspects of the work. The aim of the projects is to carry out practical improvements while enjoying yourself, so work at your own pace.

MAY

Sunday 11th
Grovelands Park
Meet 10.00 am Staff Yard, Broad Walk entrance, Winchmore Hill

Work on the woodland footpath continues, to improve the access through this section of woods to the Pound.

Sunday 25th
Trent Country Park – 20 years of ECV
Meet 10.00 am Staff Yard, far end of Snakes Lane (off Bramley Rd, opp. Oakwood Tube) by Animal Corner

May 2008 is the 20th Anniversary of Enfield Conservation Volunteers. We will be working in the morning in the Nature Trail, then retiring to the Visitor Centre. We have invited the Mayor to cut the cake and join us in the celebrations.

JUNE

Sunday 8th
Forty Hall
Meet 10.00am Forty Hall car park, off Forty Hill.

The banks of the fishing lakes are getting badly eroded and before the fishing season starts again, the Enfield Angling Consortium have asked for our help with sandbagging and revetments.

Sunday 22nd
Whitewebbs Park
Meet 10.00 am Whitewebbs Golf Course OLD car park, behind Rose & Crown pub, Beggars Hollow, off Clay Hill.

The aqueduct at Flash Lane is a listed structure with English Heritage, so we have to look after it, which means removing any vegetation and keeping the brook flowing underneath.

JULY

Sunday 6th
Jubilee Park
Meet 10.00 am Community Building (by the playground), Hadleigh Road or Galliard Road N9.

The Friends of Jubilee have asked for our expertise to help improve their conservation area, so we will be doing our best to oblige.

Sunday 20th
Forty Hall
Meet 10.00am Forty Hall car park, off Forty Hill.

The Warren Path from the Rose Garden to mile and a quarter south footpath needs some attention – to keep the pigs and sheep on the farm and out of the park, so we will be attempting some repairs.

AUGUST

Sunday 3rd
Hilly Fields Park
Meet 10.00am opp. St John’s Church, adj. Fallow Buck, Strayfield Road, Enfield

As we don’t have sheep to graze the small meadow where the yellow meadow ants reside, we have to take on the role of sheep and cut down the encroaching vegetation. We may also fell some trees to enlarge the area.

Sunday 17th
Oakwood Park
Meet 10.00am Pavilion, entrances on Prince George Av and Lakenheath opp. Saxon Way

We will be continuing the management of this small but important area of acid grassland.

Sunday 31st
Forty Hall
Meet 10.00am Forty Hall car park, off Forty Hill.

Continuing the gradual removal of the encroaching oak scrub on the Great Field.
